Double celebration in September for Stephen and Diane

The month of September 2018 proved a special one in the lives of Whitewell members, Stephen and Diane Campbell.

First off, Stephen, originally from Jordanstown was ordained as our new Youth Pastor at the morning worship service on Sunday 23 September, while just two days later both he and Diane, who hails from the Co Down village of Portavogie got married at Whitewell.

The couple enjoyed a spectacular wedding reception at the Galgorm Hotel and Spa, Ballymena before jetting off to the USA for their honeymoon.
Stephen had served previously as a youth leader at the Tabernacle but having gelled so well with the young people of the church, over the past few years, he is now their full-time pastor.

The ordination service was attended by several visiting pastors and many friends of the Campbell family while the church was well-filled for the special occasion.
“It’s harder than I thought standing up here,” said Stephen, as he choked back tears of emotion before paying a special tribute to his parents, David and Cynthia Campbell.
“I’ve so many people to thank today, but especially my parents. They introduced me to Jesus at the age of six, and at eighteen I was baptised. They have always been a wonderful support to me in my life, “said a grateful Stephen.

Before the ordination ceremony, Pastor David Purse brought a challenging Word about the privilege of being a pastor and the enormous responsibilities involved in the role. He spoke from the text “, and he gave some, apostles; and some prophets; and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. (Ephesians 4 11:12.)
At the close of the service, the visiting and current pastors came forward, including Pastor McConnell and Eric Briggs from Armagh to lay hands on Stephen and officially welcome him into the ministry.
Meanwhile, Pastor Stephen will take up his new post when he returns from honeymoon.
