Memorable Week at the 2017 GB Camp

The sun shone brightly at the seaside village of Annalong during this year’s GB Camp which took place from Monday 24 - Thursday 27 July. The hot July temperatures and surrounding beaches made the County Down coastal resort the perfect venue for the twenty-four girls and five leaders who signed up for the trip.

Staying at residential Christian-based facilities; the girls enjoyed getting to know one another before the commencement of the new GB year which kicks off again on 12 September.  “We expect well over 100 girls to attend the GB this term and the camp was a great way to keep unity between them over the summer months.  We all had a very blessed time together”, said GB officer, Judith Hamilton.

Annalong, situated at the foot of the of the Mourne Mountains near Kilkeel, is well-known as a fishing and holiday resort.

The girls enjoyed morning devotions which, this year, focused on “Lost Things.” Later in the day, they took part in several activities including visiting Castlewellan Forest Park where they made new friends.  Back on the beach, the girls enjoyed an extremely competitive sand castle competition.

Meanwhile, in the evenings the girls were introduced to the history of Mary Jones and her Bible – a story which inspired the founding of the British and Foreign Bible Society.  The GB motto is “Seek, Serve and Follow Christ” and so this timely teaching on the importance of applying the Bible to everyday life was most relevant. Preparations are already in place for the start of the new GB year, and expectations are high for another great enrollment.
