Christmas Sale time again

The annual church Christmas sale takes place this Saturday from 10am on Saturday morning until 12.30pm.

Organised by Linda Hobson and Geraldine Higgins, the sale is always a big hit with the Whitewell members, many of whom come seeking for a real bargain, and, of course, this year should prove no exception.

Great preaching and great crowds attend Sunday services.

Pastor McConnell appeared to ‘roll back the years’ last Sunday evening bringing an inspirational word to the Metropolitan Tabernacle congregation entitled – “The man God put on like an overcoat”.

His text was taken from Judges chapter six and the story of Gideon – a prophet called by God, but one who didn’t feel worthy of that same call. The pastor preached with remarkable strength given his recent illnesses. The sermon was noticeably full of passion and great instruction for people with a desire to enter the ministry and, at the close, seven people came to Christ.

“Having a desire is not enough, it’s the call of God that is required”, stated Pastor McConnell, who urged would-be ministers not to’ kick open doors’ for themselves.

Certainly the attention level was impressive by the many worshippers who had converged on the Tabernacle last Sunday evening, despite the warm conditions and plus 20 degrees temperatures.

Earlier at the Lord’s Table, Associate Pastor, David Purse, also brought a very encouraging message about the devotional life of the Christian.

Speaking from the book of Daniel, Pastor David preached with great authority and highlighted how God’s law is a higher law than even the very law of the land. His message again reminded believers of the importance of finding solace each day with Jesus and cultivating their prayer life and daily devotional reading times.

All in all it was a very instructive day topped off with some excellent worship from the Well Band and a beautiful song about the blood of Jesus by Whitewell duo Pierced. This Wednesday evening Pastor David Purse continues his weekly Bible study series at 8pm.
