Mission To Kenya
On 28th February 2007 the senior Pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle Belfast, Dr. James McConnell opened the Metropolitan Sanctuary for Sick Children in Nyeri, Kenya. The hospice is the only one of its kind, specialising in children in a country where an estimated 5,000,000 young people require assistance in their daily lives. Every month as many as 600 children are treated by trained doctors and nurses, many of these children are disabled. Their illnesses include HIV, tuberculosis’, cerebral palsy, rickets, jiggers and cases of sexual abuse. Ages range from one month up to 17 years.
Over the last year Jason and Jolene Allen and family, from the Metropolitan Tabernacle Belfast, have been living and working full time in our Sanctuary for sick children. It has been a very busy couple of months that have passed. The Sanctuary is continuing to do it’s daily duties serving the sick and disabled children that come. We are seeing new faces every week and many are blessed with support, food, medications and physical therapy that is so precious and life changing to the children and parents.
In addition to this we manufacture postural control chairs from cardboard. Specially prescribed and designed by the occupational therapists, they help maintain the child in a good posture, supporting the trunk and head in an optimum position in order to facilitate functions such as feeding. The Sanctuary employs a group of local women whose disabled children attend the sanctuary, they produce hand made paper products and greeting cards, the proceeds of which support the sanctuary.
Thank you for helping us to seek and help these, his sheep.
